Re: FAKES of Pickering, MO - 1922

Thanks for the info.
about the article:
Thornton Fakes b. 1814 NC died 1902 MO had a son by his first wife Catherine Keeling who was Elwood Fakes b. 1845, he and his wife Susan had Charley Fakes b. 1879. Charley evidently had a son Floyd Fakes.
The Great Step grandmother Mentioned was the second wife of Thornton Fakes Josephine b. abt 1850, who on the 1880 Census for Pickering, Nodaway MO. he was 66 she was 30, younger than some of his sons.
Thornton Fakes and Catherine Keeling had 4 boys
Earl Cranston Fakes b 1841 m. Charity Parsons Wakefield.

Elwood b. 1845
Oscar 1846
Willard 1858

Possibly this one too:
Benjamin F. Fakes lived in Ripley co. MO 1880.

I believe that Fransenia Fakes b. 1846 married to Joseph Wakefield is their daughter as well. Joseph was the brother of Charity Parsons Wakefield.

Charity Parsons Wakefield b. 1842 and Joseph Wakefield b. 1848 were children of James Washington Wakefield b. 1810 TN and Helious Parsons Wakefield b. 1809 KY who lived in Nodaway Co. MO until moving out to Crescent City, Del Norte, CA in 1892 where they lived out their years. He lived to 96 years old.

Also:
Thornton Fakes b. 1814 NC 2nd marriage to Josephine last name ?? b. 1850 they had one daughter that I know of from the 1880 Pickering, Nodaway MO census:
Myrtle Fakes b. 1874 MO.

Any information on these Fakes or Wakefield family appreciated.

Thank you.
Gina
Odes Fakes Application for SS Account Number

Jim and Kathy,

When I first started researching my Smiths and Fakes, I didn't know who was kin to who (still don't for most of them LOL) but for some reason I suspected Odes Fakes was somehow related and I got a copy of his SS Application. If either of you don't have it and want it, let me know and I'll send it on. I can either give it on paper or scan it, whichever you prefer.

Hello Denise and Emily,

My name is Cheri Fakes, and my father's name is Arthur Fakes; and I've been trying to find where the rest of my family came from. I'm in Scotland at the moment, because my family was able to trace us back to a John Fakes who came to the United States from Scotland when he was about ten years old, and his profession was listed as a hatter. He eventually settled in Tennessee, where he grew up to become a justice of the peace. He married twice (because his first wife died), and if I'm remembering correctly his first wife'd namd was Mary and his second wife's name was Elizabeth. Right now, the Scottish Registry's and my best theory is that John Fakes and his family lived in the highlands but emmigrated to the United States when the English started to invade around the mid 1700s.

I don't have all my notes that I've taken in front of me at the moment...but in them I do have some exact dates written down...I'm at an internet cafe that's down the street from where I'm staying in Scotland, and will be back home in Illinois by the end of the month. But if either or BOTH of you could please reply to this message or e-mail me, I would love to piece together any information on our family as possible.

My family would love to talk to you as well. Please! I feel like I'm so close to connecting the dots as to where John Fakes came from...I would love to talk to you both!

Sincerely,
Cheri Fakes
Addison, IL 60101
(630) 495-3938

FAKES of Pickering, MO - 1922

"The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Saturday, January 28, 1922

SHE HAS 11 GRANDPARENTS.

Maryville, Mo., Jan. 27. --- Some little folks have no grandparents
and many feel lucky if they have as many as four. But little
2-months-old Dorothy Jean FAKES, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Floyd FAKES of Pickering, has eleven.

Four of Dorothy Jean's grandparents are just plain "grandpa" and
"grandma." They are Mr. and Mrs. Charley FAKES of Pickering
and Mr. and Mrs. Ira NEAL of Maryville. Then there are five who
have the honor of being great-grandparents. They are Mr. and Mrs.
Sam INGLES of Hopkins, Mr. and Mrs. T. Y. NEAL of Maryville
and Mrs. Ellwood FAKES of Pickering. There is one great step-
grandmother, Mrs. Nettie HENSON of Parnell and one great-great
step-grandmother, Mrs. Josephine FAKES of Pickering.

======================================================
(I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate
knowing if you found this posting helpful.)
johnobrien@kc.rr.com
======================================================

neirbo5
Odes Fakes is the son of Oliver Fakes and Mettie Leeper Ragland. Oliver is the son of John W.Fakes and Maraget Jane (Fuqua) Stout. Margaret was born a Fuqua and after age 2 was adopted by Stouts. I have siblings and spouse info on this line if you are interested.... please email me, I'd like to compare notes. I am still looking for more date info and an adoption of Henry Clay Fakes, Jr, adopted to Henry Clay Fakes and Elizabeth (Lizzie), Lorene Swafford, sometime in the 1920's from Cookeville or Jackson County.
